Like one of Georgette Heyer's Georgians, but without the wit -- which is unfortunate, as Veryan is clearly trying to be funny. There are amusing moments, but most of the attempted humor was artificial and heavy-handed. In a way this made sense, because the characters didn't seem to bright themselves...
