Patrick Gray Cox is a writer that combines his love of Historical Fiction with Science Fiction writing; a mix of CS Forester and Isaac Asimov.He was born in Cape Town in 1946. His very fulfilling career working in all areas of fire safety, initially as a fireman - fighting bush fires in South Africa took a new turn when he moved his family to England in 1988. Since then he has worked as a fire and explosives expert, consultant to large companies, teacher and Government Adviser in the Middle East, the Far East, the Caribbean and as a speaker in conferences in many other parts of the world as well.He has a number of published articles in trade journals and continues to write in a freelance capacity for the Fire and Rescue Journal among others. But Patrick has had a long fascination with the sea and ships, as well as the world of science fiction and space travel. He has written a number of books, including the historical fiction works A Baltic Affair and Limehouse Boys, the first set in the Napoleonic Wars of 1809 to 1816, the latter in the 1830s in and around the Thames Estuary. More recently he has published Harry Heron; Midshipman's Journey, a coming of age story which follows the career of Midshipman Harry Nelson-Heron and his friends aboard the 74 gun HMS Spartan on a voyage to Australia and the East. This is followed by Harry Heron; Into the Unknown, as Harry and his friends find themselves accidentally propelled into a future four hundred years from 1804. Further books are planned to make this a complete series. An experienced author of technical studies his portfolio includes a large number of commissioned articles on fire service matters, a book on Marine Fire Studies and the editing of a handbook for the NEBOSH Certificate in Fire Risk Management. His latest book is the IFE Guide to Fire Investigation, published in 2011. He has appeared on television programmes in the past as a fire-fighting expert including Ring of Fire for the Discovery Channel about fighting bush fires in Australia, and he had a similar role as a commentator on Inside Spontaneous Human Combustion in 2005 for Sky1. And, perhaps unusually, he has appeared on Kazakhstan's national daily news programme, Kazakhstan Today, speaking about fire safety in high rise buildings.As well as his writing, Patrick is an experienced public speaker and is keen to speak at public events on all aspects of fire-fighting and explosives investigation.
