Dwells on corporeal suffering to the point of unbelievability and/or tedium. Not that I don't believe poor Irish boys did what their priests demanded for cigarettes, but dwelling on the bare details began to seem pointless. Hmmm what to say about this book... The prose is great, but the story is almost incomprehensible at times. I found myself having to re-read paragraphs at several points just to figure out what the hell the author was saying. I think there was an interesting plot in there somewhere, but it was real...
