I like this one best, so far. The focusing on Barbara allows for more a look at not just the Raj but also the class issues. There is some beautiful writing here as well. So many people you want to smack.

The story is gripping: the language poetic ("the indigo dreams of flowers fallen asleep", to recall a phrase which lingers in the memory): and the characterisation near flawless. Even ...

Staying On won the Booker Prize but I just don't get why it got the prize instead of any of the books within the The Raj Quartet. it is basically an addendum to that amazing piece of literature. still, a nice addendum.
