Peter Afflerbach is Professor of Education at the University of Maryland, College Park. His research and teaching interests include individual differences and how they influence reading development, reading assessment, reading comprehension strategies, and the verbal reporting methodology. His recent books include Handbook of Individual Differences in Reading: Reader, Text, and Context (published by Routledge); Understanding and Using Reading Assessment, K-12; Essential Readings in Assessment (both published by the International Reading Association); Adolescent Literacy Inventory, Grades 6-12 (with William Brozo, published by Alyn & Bacon); and the Handbook of Reading Research, 4e (with Elizabeth Moje, P. David Pearson and Michael Kamil, published by Routledge). Peter serves on the Standing Committee of the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP)-Reading, and on the National Academy of Sciences Committee on Achievement Level Descriptors for NAEP. Peter is a former K-12 reading teacher.
