PETER SMALLEY Peter Smalley was born in Melbourne Australia, and educated at Geelong Grammar School. His late father was a naval officer in WW2,and his late father-in-law sailed as an ordinary seaman on a fourmasted barque at the end of the era of sailing merchant ships.A great uncle was a merchant ship's captain.Peter Smalley began his professional career as an advertising copywriter,moving on into radio, television and movies.He won the John Llewellyn Rhys Memorial Prize for his first novel'A Warm Gun' (Andre Deutsch, London)He subsequently pursued a career in radio as a broadcaster, and in television and movies a screenwriter. He lives in London with his wife Clytie Jessop, an artist and film director. His present series of sea novels. the HMS Expedient series, featuringCaptain William Rennie RN and Lieutenant James Hayter RN, began with 'HMS Expedient' set in 1786.
