ABOUT THE AUTHORSir Philip Manderson Sherlock O.M., was born in Manchioneal, Portland, Jamaica in 1902. Educator, distinguished scholar, historian and folklorist, he had a passion for all things West Indian. He was a founding member of the Junior Centre of the Institute of Jamaica, the University College of the West Indies (UWI) and the Philip Sherlock Centre for the Creative Arts (PSCCA). His publications include the children's books: Ears, Tails and Common Sense; Anansi the Spider Man;and Tales from the West Indies. In 1998 he published the epic work, The Story of the Jamaican People which he co-authored with Hazel Bennett. Sir Philip Sherlock died on December 6, 2000.ABOUT THE ILLUSTRATORSusan Judah was living with her family in Jamaica, during the 1970s, when she was chosen as the artist to illustrate Anansi and the Alligator Eggs. Her amazing illustrations brought to life this amusing Sherlock story and with her permission we can reprint this latest edition. A graduate of the Hereford School of Art and the Royal College of Art in London England, she emigrated to Canada in 1976, where she has served as the head of the Textile Department of the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design before deciding to dedicate her energies to her own work as a tapestry artist. As a life-long advocate for the arts, Judah has been a co-chair of New Brunswick Arts Board and maintains strong ties with the local arts and culture. She is the 2013 recipient of the Strathbutler Excellence Award, which promotes excellence in the visual arts of New Brunswick, Canada. Judah has works in a variety of private and public collections in New Brunswick, England, Austria, Poland, and the Caribbean, and is currently working from her studio in Upper Kingsclear, New Brunswick, Canada.ABOUT THE TRANSLATOR/EDITORElethia Rickham is Jamaican and a graduate of the Central School of Languages (Escuela Central de Idiomas) Madrid, Spain.  A resident of St. Ann she spearheaded the Summer Reading programme at the St. Ann Junior Parish Library.
