by Ken Follett I was warned that this book is long, so I've taken it slowly between other reads. It's a Historical Fiction set in The English Civil War, starting 1135. Tom Builder is a mason with a dream of building a cathedral. Earlier, two brothers, Phillip and Francis, see their parents slaught...

This book served as my introduction to the Plantagenet dynasty when I first read it, and I fell in love. I had no idea at the time of how accurate the details were. I just knew that the story captivated me more than any other had up to that point. The people. The cathedral. The hopelessness of attem...

Ken Follett’s gripping, and extremely detailed historical epic, The Pillars of the Earth, takes place in England during the twelfth century. The backdrop is the continuous battle for the English throne between King Stephen and the Empress Maud. Tom Builder, a poor mason, insists on following his dre...

Entertaining "epic" revolving around the building of a cathedral. Interesting characters, but the unwieldy scope of the story dilutes its power.

The fact that...

Every minute spent turning pages was joyful yet sorrowful as I knew the world of greed, treachery, love, loyalty and architecture I'd been dr...

I really enjoyed this! It was historical and exciting and filled with action. I wish I could have given it 4 and a half stars, just because the characters are so true to themselves. I suppose they're not the point of the story and I should just go ahead and give it 5 stars. Though I don't care about...

I didn't really like this book but I am also not a sci-fi kind of reader typically. I think if you like these kinds of books though you will probably like it so don't let my ratingscare you if you like these kinds of books!

I really enjoyed this book. I was fascinated by the details of life in the time period, and I loved the stories. The bad thing about this book, though, is that it didn't know when to quit. It goes on and on and on. The church burns down, gets rebuilt, the roof falls in, they rebuild, and on and on. ...
