The story of an unwed Amish girl who gives birth in secret among the cows in the barn is heartbreaking. The confusion and angst and then the little dead child found to have been murdered. She didn't remember doing it. She will willingly accept her punishment. Then a lawyer steps in to defend her. Th...

I have to give this book 4 stars because the story was informative and interesting and wrapped itself around my heart strings from the first page. How could I sympathize with a (girl) who might/might not have killed her baby? But sympathize I did, over and over. Picoult made me understand how the...
An interesting story with a lot of twists. Heartbreaking moments when the mother confesses and when she's subjected to cross-examination by the prosecution. I liked it but I'm not sure I liked the deliberate manipulation.
Worst ending I have read in a long time. Why would Sarah "protect" her daughter by killing her baby and letting her take the blame for it? It makes no sense.
Very powerful, especially the ending. The confusion is shown well here, as well as their way of living. I liked how it showed their good and bad parts, not focusing on either to any great extent.Good for a long plane trip.

This story intrigued me for the most part, even though the ending was a bit predictable and contradictory. The book follows pretty much the same format as all of Jodi Picoults other books, which at first I found interesting but now (after about 10 books), I think I might be getting a bit tired of he...
I like the way Jodi writes. It is easy to read with a familiar feel as she writes about the Amish. The plot is easy to follow, yet brings in the practical everyday life into play.
