Lark City, a hedonistic haven off the coast of Total America. Code Guy Johnny Lyon is writing a Jesus programme for release via social networking VR. His employers, Alt Corp, believe that this new AI will rebrand religion after a recent holy war caused the Middle East to implode and the former US of A to become a mass police state. At first, the Jesus VR is a success. Users are reconnected with significant moments and people from their past, guided by the Good Lord Himself. But a series of increasingly sinister demands corrupt the AI and something goes wrong; a virtual hell bursts onto the streets of Lark, manifested through violent and surreal social breakdown. Sarah Lee, Johnny's co-worker and love interest, gets caught up in the madness and is placed in grave danger by the Jesus AI itself. Meanwhile, drug lord Paul McBride is determined to exploit the chaos to take out his enemies. But someone's coming for McBride, someone he won't expect, someone who is determined to make the gangster pay for the sins of his past. At the same time, McBride's estranged daughter, the junkie whore Kitty, must face her own demons in order to survive the night. Only Johnny Lyon can save Sarah, Kitty and the city.
