This is not a bad book. It's firmly 2.5 stars, and whilst in earlier times I would've rounded that up to 3, I'm a grumpy old woman now so I'm rounding it down to 2.This is a wonderfully unpretentious novel - it doesn't take itself too seriously, and seems presented as an escapist read, and that's fa...
DNF'd within a couple of pages. I knew instinctively that this was a male author and this type of author is the reason I tend to be wary of male authors. He kinda took the show don't tell rule and stamped on it, leaving the whole story feel like an unedited self published work and me feeling like I ...
I wish I was the sensible sort of person who could easily give up on a book, because I knew from very early on that this one wasn't really working for me, but once I start something I have this compulsion to finish it. And I wanted to like this one, because it sounded interesting and I love finding ...
Fun and well-paced (in other words fast-paced and never dull), but the characterisations were somewhat shallow, the magic didn't feel very thoroughly thought out (that might be because half the time we got descriptions like "she whispered a word of magic" or "she uttered a strong word of magic") and...
This review can also be found at Books For YA!Poltergeeks is a querky, action-packed, ass-kicking novel that is hard to put down. From the very beginning, I was immediately captured by the story. The level of excitement that I feel in the first 20 pages was off the roof. There's nothing more awesome ...
Oh the fabulous snark! I seriously love Julie and Marcus and Betty and Julie's mum. This series has the potential to grow so much in scope, I can't wait for the second one to find so much more about Shadowculls and the magical world! Full review to come.
2.5 - 3 starsThough I enjoyed the characters, I just didn't get caught up in the writing. Too much telling me what was going on instead of letting the events unfold on their own.
Such fun and the perfect mix of creepy, geeky and action-packed. Why did it take me so long to return to this book? Full review to come.
Review: We start off meeting Julie, a teenage witch, and her friend Marcus as they investigate a house that’s been messed around with by a poltergeist. This isn’t the normal kind though-it’s a bit malevolent and tries to attack Marcus. After trapping it in a teddy bear, Julie goes home and shows her...
I made the mistake of pausing Poltergeeks and starting another book. Now I can’t make myself get back to read it. I’m not in the mood. I’m not motivated enough. It’s just that stupid. Whatever.Poltergeeks is not my kind of book. The story is cheesy and clichéd. The heroine, Julie, is a brat that sou...
