I think Philip Roth intended this for two very different classes of reader: those who are driven by the author's basic drives and those in the next house over who are always laughing at him. Whether or not Roth had any serious reasons for writing the book, it is sometimes very, very funny. And that'...

Extremely well written book. Quite funny at times and right on the money about a lot of things. In the end though, it did not really speak to me that much.

I've been reading a lot of smut lately. It's not because I'm a horndog, though! No wait, yes it is. That's the reason. Portnoy's complaint is a really insightful and funny book. Although for some reason I found it a bit hard to read much of it at once, it was still an enjoyable read. The way Roth talks about Portnoy's childhood is magically embarrassing. Portnoy is really a character to relate to. If you're a cynica...

I've got about 20 pages to go on this, but just finished watching the tail end of an episode of Half & Half over brunch and it sort of dove-tailed with some vague thoughts I've had about sexual deviancy (and representations thereof) while reading Portnoy's Complaint. In the TV show, a girl is dating...
