A native of Washington State, Priscilla Royal grew up in New Westminster, BC. She graduated with a BA in world literature from San Francisco State University. In 2000, she retired from the federal civil service and now writes medieval mysteries full time. Medieval literature and history have fascinated her for almost half a century, and she delights in finding details that aren't usually mentioned in most fiction. As one example, her main characters belong to the very real Order of Fontevraud, a double house of monks and nuns, run by a woman in an era when conventional wisdom said that women were weak, illogical and should never rule men. The characters remain true to their time but exhibit universal characteristics. Although a fan of theater, modern mysteries, and fiction of lesser violence, she was inspired to write about medieval crime and punishment by the works of both Ellis Peters and Sharon Kay Penman. So, on the plus side, despite serious RL interventions progress on my card is well under way, with four squares (including the centre / free / raven square) marked "called and read"; three of these in a row -- plus reading for the remaining two squares of that row also in progress -- and several mor...

I was pleasantly surprised to discover this series was still going. I had heard book #12 was suppose to have been the last. Not only was a thirteenth novel released last year but book #14 is due to be published at some point this year.   I wasn't feeling as excited for book #14 by the time I reached...

It got an extra half point for potential. There were some rough bits in it but overall it was a good read, or rather a good listen. The pre-amble putting things in context was interesting and the social interactions between the characters was interesting. I would like to read more in this series a...

Series: Eleanor of Tyndal Medieval Mystery #1 I liked the idea of this novel, but something about it didn’t really work for me. I liked Eleanor and Thomas and the rest of the characters, but the writing seemed a bit clumsy. It just didn’t flow all that well, and I found the first-person POV chapte...
SusannaG - Confessions of a Crazy Cat Lady
I don't usually write two reviews in one day (sometimes, alas, not two in a week!), but today reading has been more comfortable on my eyes than a lot of other activities, so here's a second review. Wine of Violence is a historical mystery, set in 1270. Tyndal Priory, a "double house" (one with bo...
