This is the second novella that gave birth to Wool. In this book we follow Mayor Jahns and Deputy Mames as they travel downards into the bowels of the silo so they can interview a candidate to sheriff position. Along the way we see those two characters developed much more than the first novella and ...
The second book in the Wool series basically just sets up the rest of the series (in my opinion). It's slow and took me forever to read. The economics and politics of the silo is very interesting and I enjoy the world he's created, but nothing really happens and for a 'short story' that is essential...
This is an excellent second installment in the Wool short story series. This story has a completely different feel from the first one. We spend most of the story on a walk with 2 people down the entire length of the silo. While slower in pace, it allowed the world inside the silo to expand. And ...
As someone else mentioned, this isn't a stand alone book. You have to have read the first of the series in order to understand most of what is occuring in the second. ...except for the love between the two focal characters in Proper Gauge. That needed no introduction. It was sweet to see them fe...
Not as thrilling and exciting as the first one. If there hadn't been the long tour up and down the silo...it was necessary, I get that. The "quiet" part was important to set the tone and give insight into the life inside the silo - how everyday life (communication, hierarchy, travelling) works there...
I didn't like this one nearly as much as the first one and now I'm not sure if I'm going to keep reading the series or not. I didn't feel as connected to the characters, I felt like the build up was lacking, and once again, Hugh Howey has killed off a character that I was just beginning to appreciat...
Though this was one doesn't pack quite the same punch that [Book:Wool|12287209] does, it delves much deeper into the workings of the Silo and the people who call it home.
The story as a whole has improved characterization, but is obviously not complete within itself. Looking forward to the next "chapter".Update: Upon reading again, I appreciate the mayor and her lover much better. The feel of the powderkeg of the silo is offset by this relative calm of a story.
The second installment of Wool serie brings the new foundations of the world created by Hugh Howley. I was worried about the second book, I thought that it's impossible to repeat the mystery, tension and atmosphere of the first one. But I liked it. 4 stars
