Captain Pugwash first appeared in a 1957 strip cartoon, sailing the high seas near New Zealand in his ship the Black Pig, ably assisted by cabin boy Tom, pirates Willy and Barnabas, and Master Mate. His arch enemy was Cut-Throat Jake, captain of the Flying Dustman. In Pugwash and the Buried Treasure, the Captain's worst nightmare comes true when he’s marooned on an island in the middle of the ocean. Even worse, he’s not alone. His companion is none other than the villainous Cut-Throat Jake. News of a buried fortune adds to the complications. John Ryan’s witty narrative and whimsical illustrations make this one of the most exciting adventures in the series.
