I am Rachel Reiland, the author of Get Me Out of Here: My Recovery From Borderline Personality Disorder. I wrote this book immediately after a therapeutic and spiritual journey that transformed my life forever. I have decided to speak out now because it has been over a decade since I terminated therapy and the recovery has been genuine and lasting. Borderline Personality Disorder is a serious mental illness with a high rate of inpatient hospitalization and suicide--the inner rage which drives it leads to many self-destructive behaviors, such as anorexia, substance abuse, cutting and turbulent relationships. Borderline Personality Disorder is not exactly a diagnosis the sufferer wants to shout from the rooftops. For those unfamiliar with its symptoms, even the name implies terrible things. For those who are familiar, the diagnosis carries even worse connotations. Many therapists refuse to treat those with BPD, even more believe it cannot be treated. That's why I am coming out publicly to share my story, to speak openly of a mental illness suffered by a growing number of Americans. Over 6 million have been clinically diagnosed with BPD, but many millions more never seek the help or get the diagnosis. The feelings that fuel BPD are increasingly common. I am willing to stand up and say that yes, lasting healing can take place and, in my case, has taken place--that, with love and faith, there is light at the end of the tunnel!I am currently doing radio interviews across the country, have begun posting on blogs, and have created a new website, www.getmeoutofherebook.com.
