Rachel S. Cox writes for the Washington Post, World War II, CQ Researcher, and other national magazines. She was previously an editor at Preservation magazine. As a staff writer at Time-Life Books she wrote for the Civil War and Fighting Jets series. She holds a BA cum laude in English from Harvard, where she wrote her thesis on Thomas Hardy.Into Dust and Fire, her first book, grew out of Cox's curiosity about the fate of her uncle who was killed with the British army in Tunisia in 1943. Recreating his story, along with that of his four idealistic American brothers in arms, was a six-year quest that led her to England, Egypt, and Tunisia, where she became the first of her family to visit her uncle's grave. To learn more about that search, read the interview at www.rachelscox.com. Also available there are a videotaped talk at the Pritzker Military Library and the C-Span2 BookTV program on Into Dust and Fire.
