I really did. Even though it's first person (blah). I enjoyed the creativity of the story and the world-building. I loved the 80s references (great music mix!). It was just a very enjoyable story to listen to. The only downsides for me was my dislike of Wade's love interest. I thought she was an ass...
Fun futuro-nostalgic romp through eighties pop culture and a bleak techno future. Simplistic storyline and relatively two-dimensional characters ruins what could have been a great thriller, along with a couple of moments where suspension of disbelief is hard to achieve.
4.5 StarsWhat a fun read! 80's nostalgia mixed with virtual reality from the the 2040's turned out to be something a I really enjoyed. Now don't get me wrong, this is not the book if you are looking for literary fiction and I am pretty sure it was not written to be. It is what I like to call escapis...
***WARNING: Mild Overshare Ahead *** There, inside the game's two-dimensional universe, life was simple: It's just you against the machine. Move with your left hand, shoot with your right, and try to stay alive as long as possible. Au contraire, amigo. My ex-boyfriend tried to get me in on World of ...
This book is an 80's geek's paradise. I grew up on video games, D&D, and John Hughes movies, and I want to have this book's babies. Not everyone will appreciate this book, but 90% of the references made me squeal with delight. And I loved the plot, pacing, and even the clever dialogue. Read this...
I can understand why this book was loved so much by so many people but for me it didn't quite work out that way. I thought it was good, but, probably because I was a teenager in the 1970's, I didn't relate with it as I would have done had I been younger. None the less, it was a nice read, although ...
1980's mass-media nascent-computer-nerd porn disguised as a mystery-caper.perfectly enjoyable, but probably only for americans born between 1968 and 1982.it really is, start to finish, an entertaining homage to the corny, the magnificent, and the perhaps-unjustifiably-popular culture of a certain sl...
This book made me forget that I usually get carsick whenever I read in a moving vehicle. From half-way through the end, I kept holding Baby Kindle while I was moving from one transportation form to the other: train, small minivan (one of the forms of transportation here in my country), and finally m...
3.5 stars. A really fun story, just don't think too hard about it.Wade is a kid with all the typical escapism story kid troubles. His parents are dead. His guardian is abusive. He has no friends and people make fun of him. So he spends much of his time escaping into OASIS, a virtual world that actua...
