A true, touching, funny short story about the possible courtship between a man who recently lost everything and the woman who might be able to help him find his way back. “rebecca” allows the reader inside the stream of consciousness of the self-doubting, hesitant, completely-unsure-of-himself narrator who lost his fourteen-year marriage, his home, his job, his purpose, and his sense of self. Alone, starting a new, difficult job, in a new state, all he wanted to do was put his head down, get through his divorce, and rebuild his life. The last thing he was thinking about was starting a new relationship. But then he met a woman at work. A smart, attractive, engaging, opinionated woman. Whom he very, very much wanted to kiss.
“rebecca” is told in a series of emails over the course of two weeks in the fall of 2004, with the honesty we share only in our most unguarded moments with our closest friends.
