Cute and charming but definitely meant more for the Middle Grade age group. Not one that an adult Middle Grade reader could enjoy as much.

What makes this book interesting? First, Julia Bond's illustration style. I enjoyed her impressionistic 'just enough' drawings handle the human figures. She spends more effort on creating a scene, a composition. Transparent watercolors help her control the way my eyes move by keeping the darker area...
Nicely done with juxtaposition of factual information with rhyming text. Wish a bit more had been said about the role of slaves in the construction.
