88. REDEMPTION IN INDIGO, BY KAREN LORDRecommended by Diego, who actually went as far as buying it and giving it to me, to make sure I would read it. His passion surely is commendable. I normally skip introductions and go straight to the story, but this should not be done with this book. The introdu...

My full review can be found at SFF Book Review. THE GOOD: A funny, light tale with every word in its place, great characters and a wonderful ending. THE BAD: The characters were somewhat distant, some side characters deserved more screen time. Plotwise a bit forgettable in the end. THE VERDICT: Re...

I love storytelling and I love folktales so it's no surprise I was predisposed to like this book. It's so rich and evocative and I kept wanting to tuck away bits and pieces of it to revisit later.

What a lovely book this is.Told in a storyteller style, which I love, with a strong female main character who doesn't feel the need to be physically intimidating, which I also love, this had a mythological feel to it that gave it both wide and close scope, if that makes sense.Paama is looking to get...

Cute story. Not too long but I read it for something different. It is basically a folk tale, and I enjoyed it thoroughly. Read it all in a night!

(Original review on my livejournal account)Why I Read It: It was the February selection for calico_reaction's "Theme Park" book club (the theme was Women of Color Writing Spec Fic). This book was, to be trite, "short but sweet". I'm seriously surprised at how much awesome Lord was able to pack into t...

People I know seem to love this, but it just wasn't for me (either right-now or at-all, I don't know yet). The arch voice of the omniscient narrator just ended up irritating me, the book followed characters I felt no connection with at the expense of those I did, and the impossibly-gluttonous fat ma...
