Richard Arghiris is a freelance writer, journalist, blogger, and long-term traveller. He has been wandering the highways and unpaved back roads of Central America since 2003, contributing to a range of guidebooks by Footprint, various websites, magazines, and newspapers, including The Independent, The Observer, Perceptive Travel, and Intercontinental Cry. Central America’s diversity of remote landscapes, its vivid tropical ecology, its patchwork of indigenous, Latin, and African-descendent cultures - not to mention its swashbuckling sense of drama – are an on-going creative inspiration for Richard. He is particularly drawn to far-flung frontiers where civilisation ends and the wilderness begins. His blog, Unseen Americas, www.unseenamericas.com, features news reports, narrative journalism, and street photography from the sketchy US-Mexico border to the teeming rainforests of Panama.
