A huge compendium of stories by one of the more underrated writers in the genre, Richard Christian Matheson's DYS&TOPIA is a real treat. His penchant for staccato storytelling and preference for sentence fragments is a deceptively simple approach, as he somehow manages to tell whole stories in fewer...
It's got Clive Barker's "The Body Politic" -my favourite story from many years ago, which I didn't own a copy of until now. Plus there's James Herbert & David Moody. And it was on sale. How could I NOT buy it?
I had high hopes for this book, but there were a number of serious things wrong with it. The first 163 pages are encumbered by so-called "classic" body horror. Everyone who buys and reads this book has already read "The Fly," "Who Goes There?", "The Tell-Tale Heart" (body horror?), "Herbert West,"...
I feel that the writing for most of these stories was very high quality, but I admit there were a few I didn't like at all, because of the content. However, this makes for a good horror collection. You will get your money's worth, most likely. Favorite stories by Cody Goodfellow, Joe R. Lansdale,...
I liked this collection way more than the Mammoth book of Zombies. "Midnight mass" and "Red Reign" were revelations, and I got the opportunity to revisit classics like "For the blood is the life" and "Ligeia". There are tales here that I will definitely read again in the near future.
My favourite story was easily Passing the Bone by Sean Williams :)
This was a pretty good collection. Too bad I put it down more than a year ago, and I don't remember the stories I read back then well enough to write a competent review. I don't really want to spend the time to reread the first half, so this review is going to be pretty sketchy. My apologies for t...
I am very impressed with this anthology. The writing is strong and the stories are very good, with the exception of only two. The strongest stories are More Tomorrow (Michael Marshall Smith), The Puppets (Ramsey Campbell), The Hungry Moon (Graham Masterton), Uzzi (Brian Lumley) and Fee (Peter Straub...
Dark Delicacies III: Haunted is a hard book for me to review. It was very well done technically, but I did not enjoy as many of the stories as I hoped I would. Fundamentally, this is because I don't really care for type of horror showcased in a good number of these stories. In fact, I felt a mil...
I would have given this a 4.5 if I could have. It was a great little group of stories that elicited many different emotions and actions. They are stories that combine a little sex with a little horror as the title states. I found myself facinated with the woman that through sex could take over her l...
