Richard D. Roberts, Ph.D., is a Principal Research Scientist in the Center for Academic and Workplace Readiness and Success at the Educational Testing Service, Princeton, New Jersey. A former National Research Council Fellow who conducted research at Brooks Air Force Base, Texas, he was also a Senior Lecturer at The University of Sydney, Sydney, Australia, from 1998 to 2003.His main areas of specialization are assessment and human individual differences, and he has conducted research on cognitive abilities, emotional intelligence, personality, health and well-being, motivation, aging, and human chronotype (morningness-eveningness). Dr. Roberts has published a dozen books (for MIT, Oxford, and APA Press) and over 150 peer-review articles or book chapters on these topics, with a near equal number of presentations around the world. He has also received significant grants and contracts (from corporations, foundations, the military, and governments, totaling several million dollars), as well as several professional honors, including two ETS Presidential Awards and two PROSE awards from the Association of American Publishers. Dr. Roberts (by now, if this has not bored you, feel free to call him Rich) is currently Associate Editor of The International Journal of Psychology and Section Editor (Personality) for the forthcoming International Encyclopedia of the Social and Behavioral Sciences, Second Edition.
