An interesting look at race in our culture, both past and present. The structure of this book is particularly interesting, starting in the 1920s in St. Louis, flashing back to the 1860s along the banks of the Mississippi in Iowa and Missouri, and then back to the 20s. Peck at his best.
I love Peck, who has written some fabulous books. Here's another. This one is an exploration of some of the people involved in the Civil War along the banks of the Mississippi in Illinois.
