The paranoia on display here is rooted in Stalin-era issues, and, in some cases, civil war issues, extended dishonestly into the '80s. Ultimately, silly and crass, childish, superficial, mendacious. Consider the insistence that Uncle Joe hired a bunch of ex-Nazis after WW2, which is likely true. ...
The author is a british conservative (and the audio narrator had the most annoying voice imaginable) -- and shows all the vices of this ideological breed. Still, he is informed, and if looking for a single-volumned biography (and something less daunting than Ulam), this is a reasonable book to read...
