Robert J. Howell is professor of philosophy at Southern Methodist University. He received his Ph.D. from Brown University in 2002, and is the author of Consciousness and the Limits of Objectivity (Oxford University Press: 2013) as well as numerous articles on the problem of consciousness, self-knowledge, and the self. With Torin Alter he co-authored A Dialogue on Consciousness (Oxford University Press: 2009), The God Dialogues (Oxford: 2011), and co-edited Consciousness and the Mind Body Problem: A Reader (Oxford: 2011). His current research focuses on the nature of the self, neuroethics, and problems that stem from moral deference.
