An Episcopal priest who teaches at The School of Theology of the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee, I grew up in Virginia and North Carolina. My long and complicated education took me to Lynchburg, VA, Moscow, ID, Princeton, NJ, Edinburgh, Scotland, Alexandria, VA, Durham, England, and St. Andrews, Scotland. Before Sewanee, I worked as a teacher in North Andover, MA, a research assistant in London, England, a parish priest in Kinston, NC, and a college chaplain in Durham, England. I've edited or co-edited a number of books in the overlapping fields of theology, philosophy, literature, and Anglican studies, and have authored a philosophical study of the religious epistemology of Austin Farrer (1904-68). The photograph is of me holding a copy of one of my books in the King James Library at St. Mary's College, the Divinity School of the University of St. Andrews.
