I'm so, so happy to share this book, my first novel - which was just Long-Listed for the Flaherty-Dunnan First Novel Prize! (Please visit my site www.robinblack.net for more news and all kinds of guides and reviews. . .) Life Drawing is a book that let me examine some of the topics dearest to my heart - love, love after decades, creativity, friendship - and the dark sides of all of those. I loved writing it, and I hope you love reading it just as much. I'm excited about all the events I have coming up, also shown on my site, and about meeting new readers, as well as ones who enjoyed my collection, If I loved you, I would tell you this. Check out www.beyondthemargins.com too for more of my writing about writing. That's where I share thoughts about the process, about the craft, about being in my 50's and still early on in my career, and where I have wonderful colleagues who write amazing posts.See you there, on my site, and on the road! Happy reading!-- Robin @robin_black

It is so easy to dislike all of the characters involved in Life Drawing. They are all flawed, self-involved, and focused on the wrong things. Gus and Owen have some very nontraditional ideas about relationships that may or may not be the root of their problems depending on how one interprets their a...

If this novel were to take out an ad in the personals, that ad might read "absolutely must love domestic fiction". If, like me, you tend to equate domestic fiction with chick lit, please don't make that mistake here. Life Drawing is serious literary fiction, plumbing the depths of a long-term relati...

This book was a little uneven for me. I liked some of the stories, but others just irritated me. The ones that bugged me involved characters that did things like expecting the people in their lives to be mind-readers. If you want something or if you have a problem, you have to talk to people, you ca...
