My name is Robin Bromby and for the 30-plus years during which I have been writing books I have been constrained to writing about subjects dealing with the area of the world in which I live - Australia and New Zealand. And anyone interested in the subjects I write about but who lives outside Australasia has until recently not been able to read my books. No longer - on both scores. Authors like me can reach out to new subjects, to international topics, knowing that now potentially we can reach out to a global audience. As for the readers, they, through the international reach of Amazon, can now buy books written anywhere in the world. And take their choice: buy them as an e-book (and Amazon offers a free Kindle download) or in paperback format.I operated a small publishing company in the 1980s, set up after a book idea was rejected by several publishers (that one went on to go through five editions). But, subsequently, I also had titles issued by mainstream publishers, including Doubleday, Simon & Schuster and Lothian Books. But today the costs of printing but, more so, the rising postal charges make this much harder for a small publishing operation.I began as a cadet journalist in 1962 with The Dominion, the morning paper in Wellington, New Zealand. I also worked for the NZ Broadcasting Corporation, TV1, the South China Morning Post, The Herald (Melbourne), the Sunday Times (Wellington), The National Times (Sydney) and, since 1988, I have been first a staff reporter and now columnist for The Australia newspaper.Books now available via Amazon from Highgate Publishing are "German Raiders of the South Seas", "Australian Railways: Their Life and Times", and "The Farming of Australia", "New Zealand Railways: Their Life and Times, "Fighting on Empty: How Hitler and Hirohito Lost the Economic War", and "The Mining Investor's Handbook"..
