Ron Roesch is a Professor of Psychology and Director of the Mental Health, Law, and Policy Institute at Simon Fraser University in British Columbia, Canada. He received a PhD in clinical psychology from the University of Illinois in 1977. He is past-president of the American Psychology-Law Society and the International Association of Forensic Mental Health. He is past-editor of the scientific journals Psychology, Public Policy, and Law and Law and Human Behavior. He has published over 140 journal articles and book chapters, and 14 books on a range of topics in psychology and law. Most of my research and clinical practice has centered on forensic assessment. His research on competency to stand trial has led to changes in the way in which competency is assessed by forensic psychologists. His research contributions were recognized by the American Psychology-Law Society which gave him its award for Distinguished Contributions to Psychology and Law. He also has a private practice that focuses on juvenile and adult forensic cases.
