This is a very lovely middle grade fantasy, which focuses on a different class than most books of its type. Rose is an orphan and then a servant, rather than a lady. I liked the historical setting and especially Rose, who is a lovely main character.
Rose is the enchanting first story in a series about a girl named for the rose that was blooming in the orphanage garden the day she arrived. It starts with Rose at St. Bridget’s on a normal Sunday, when she starts to tell her friend, and fellow orphan, Maisie a story about how she came to be at the...
It's no secret that my absolute favorite part of books is falling in love with the characters. It's actually why I tend to read so much Middle Grade fiction. Characters like Rose make me smile. Vibrant, witty, and much braver than I could ever be, she stole my heart and made this book fly by for me!...
Holly Webb’s Rose (Rose #1) is a fun middle-grade read that enchanted and charmed me. Abandoned as an infant, Rose has only known the Orphanage - a life of not quite enough food, far too much hard work, and all sorts of rules designed to turn out ideal servants in a Regency-Victorian kind of world. She longs to get out. Not to run away, but simply to finally have a job, earn a wage...
Very charming YA. I loved the characters, the universe and the story, and will definitely be keeping my eye out for the rest of the series. I liked the way magic was used, and hope we get to hear more about Rose's history in the later books.A quick read and a sweet, feel-good story.
