This is a book about a boy, who seems to be very kind, who meets a stray cat. The cat tells him about a baby Dragon who lives on Wild Island and is treated very poorly. He decides that he will save the Dragon and makes sure to take everything he will need for his trip. This is really a delightful boo...

As a children's writer, this book has everything that I aspire to be. So creative and idyllic, I just want to share it with everyone - even those who are probably to old to understand the magic.

It's a classic for a reason--the language, the storytelling, the illustrations--everything's whimsical, innocent, straight-forward. The story expects you to accept talking cats and sailing to magical islands without questio...

Just read this with a few of my 1st graders, a perfectly ridiculous story for that age group. Crocodiles making a bridge while licking lollipops, a lion in corn rows, and gum chewing tigers. Sublime. Bum cack!

Maybe someday, but probably not. The art felt dated, and the story didn't grab me.

Lovely little adventure story of boy who travels to an island and meets many intriguing creatures. The story never feels contrived. Recommended.

I haven't read this book since I was in elementary school, but I remember I really loved it. Also, it taught me the word "culvert."
