S. Joan Popek is an age challenged grandmother tiptoeing through the Twilight Zone while she gazes longingly at Ganymede. She has been an instructor for Eastern New Mexico University-Roswell. She is currently a personal tutor for The Creative Writing Institute. She has worn many other hats including a bartender's and other assorted life experience head gear representing many vocations that have taught her how to see the humor in all situations. A science fiction addict since childhood, she is a graduate of Writer's Digest Short Story and Novel School and, until several years ago, was an editor and Owner for Millennium Science Fiction & Fantasy Magazine and The Roswell Literary Review. She also wrote a monthly column, "Ask Dr. WEB-Write" for Millennium. She has had two books nominated by the publishers for the First Annual Frankfurt Awards. Her other publishing accomplishments include the EPPIE 2000 Award winner, THE ADMINISTRATOR, SOUND THE RAM'S HORN, and FAIRY TALES WITH A FREUDIAN FLAIR. She has published over 250 fiction, nonfiction and poetry works in various magazines. Although she writes in many genres, Her true love is science fiction, and her short stories have appeared in The Roswell Literary Review, Millennium Science Fiction & Fantasy, Eternity, THE EDGE, Exodus, Anotherealm, Chaotic Reflections, Pulp Eternity, The Special Editors' Edition of Goddess of the Bay, Futures and others. Her nonfiction credits include: Writer's Digest, Fiction Writer, Southern New Mexico Magazine, Southern New Mexico Online, Writer's Hall, The Candlelight Poetry Journal, Feelings, FYI and Eclipsing. Many of her works have appeared in several small press anthologies and have won awards in the 1997 Best of the WEB contest by Predators & Editors, Eternity's Best of the Month contest, the 1998 Predators & Editors contest and the Alien Songs Contest/Anthology. in 1997.Her book, THE ADMINISTRATOR, won the EPPIE 2000 Award and was nominated for the 1999 "Best of Electronic Books." Millennium Science Fiction & Fantasy Magazine was nominated for the 1999 "Best E-Zine Award and her column "Ask Dr. WEB-Write" column was nominated for best article. Her book, SOUND THE RAM'S HORN was the reviewer's choice with a 5 star review at Scribes World." She speaks at various conventions and workshops on a variety of subjects including Flash Fiction, writing science fiction, publishing electronically and writer's block.
