Sal Maiorana was born in Buffalo, N.Y. in 1962, grew up in the suburbs of Syracuse, N.Y., and graduated from Buffalo State College in 1984 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism. After working part-time for The Associated Press, he landed his first job in the daily newspaper business at The Leader in Corning, N.Y. Within 20 months he moved on to the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle in 1986 where he remains today. His primary responsibilities are coverage of the Buffalo Bills, the Buffalo Sabres, golf and professional and college lacrosse.Maiorana is also a regular contributor to numerous magazines and online sites, makes frequent appearances on radio and television, and he is the author of 20 books including the two-volume history of the Bills entitled Relentless: The Hard-Hitting History of Buffalo Bills Football, and a compilation of the greatest moments in Buffalo sports history entitled Game Night in Buffalo. In 2009 he was inducted into the Frontier Field Walk of Fame, is a two-time winner of the Rochester Press-Radio Club Sports Writer of the Year award winner, the American Legion's Sports Writer of the Year in Rochester, and has also won numerous New York State Publishers' Association citations for his work with the Democrat and Chronicle.Maiorana lives in Walworth, N.Y. with his wife, the former Christine Charlton, their two daughters, Taylor and Caroline, son, Holden, and dog, Buddy.
