Talk about music running in your veins and you would be describing the core of author Samuel Ramos! Having self-published over 15 instructional books and folkloric collections of songs, he is a force to reckon with when you speak of the cuatro and the guitar. Although proficient in other stringed instrument like the tiple, mandolin, violin and the exception, accordion, Samuel Ramos started his musical journey with the cuatro and the guitar. He was 12 years old when he took to playing the guitar with his father, Salvio Ramos. Finding his comfort zone in strings, he discovered the magic of the Puerto Rican cuatro while taking lessons with his teacher and mentor Norton Torres. When in high school, he joined the rondalla, playing the core instrument, the guitar as well as the cuatro. And thus started a journey that continues its saga till today!Soon after he went to the Antillean University of Puerto Rico where he earned his Bachelor's Degree in Music Education with a Major in Classical Guitar under the superior tutelage of Dr. Jacques Landry, the famed musician and tutor who 'unlocked' the creative side in all his students. In 1999, he recorded his first ever instrumental CD for solo guitar called 'Meditando en la Cruz'.When the time came to enter into employment, Samuel chose to join the faculty of the Performing Arts School of Juan Morel Campos where he shared his love for music as a strings instructor and discovered a lifetime love for teaching music. Then on, he assisted as a teacher at the Inter American University of San German, Puerto Rico and also worked as a public school music teacher for 6 years in Lajas, Puerto Rico.By now a certified Music teacher, Samuel then relocated to Orlando, Florida where he worked as an elementary music teacher for three years at the Orange County Public School. Between teaching jobs, Samuel wrote several instructional books and guides on the learning of several instruments like the tiple, Cuatro, accordion and many others. In his spare time, Samuel records instructional videos for his online community and blog '4jibaro.com', a place where Puerto Rican music is the focal point.Never far away from his beloved music, Samuel now has two beloveds! Music and his wife, Brenda! Samuel currently resides in Orlando, Florida with his wife and their two sons. Samuel credits his parents, Salvio and Rosa for instilling the love of folk music in him. He constantly strives to increase awareness of Puerto Rican music and its heritage. With music as his wand, he attempts to change the world, one Cuatro at a time!
