Cybils book. Third in the trilogy starting with All Our Pretty Songs. I think this might be my favorite book in the series, and I think all three are very strong. I loved Tally and her way of looking at the world, her strength and impatience. McCarry does a great job showing her metamorphosis via vo...
I had been meaning to read this one since last year and when the third book in the trilogy was nominated for the Cybils, I knew I just had to do it. McCarry’s prose is marvelous, and while I often felt somewhat impatient with Maia, I also felt like she was a real person making real decisions.
I was going great with this book until the end happened. I mean, seriously, what was that? Up until then... I'd really enjoyed the journey that Tally went on. She was in search of her father, but really, I think she found a lot more than that. Her character reminds me a great deal of Don from The R...
About a Girl is the third book in Sarah McCarry's Metamorphoses series, telling of a third generation. The first book, All Our Pretty Songs, tells the stories of Aurora and her nameless best friend. The second book, Dirty Wings, tells the stories of Cassie and Maia, the mother sof Aurora and her fri...
Beautifully written and compelling, but just stops instead of ending (which might be less frustrating if you read it after All Our Pretty Songs) and I found the sex between Jason and Cass problematic--out of character as well as a bit skin-crawly--and unnecessary. Except that she may need to get pre...
The first book in this series, All Our Pretty Songs, was a book that appealed to me for its uniqueness. It was a weird and often disturbing read and those flavors extended to this book, a prequel of sorts. It answered so many questions, even questions that I didn't even always know that I had! This ...
All Our Pretty Songs is a truly unusual book. It is one of those rare reads that I am finding difficult to process, unsure of how I feel about it. It is a dark and disturbing read in so many ways, something I generally appreciate as it is a more realistic look at life. The prose is very lyrical, wit...

This is one of those times when I'm almost completely stumped as to how to reflect on a work I've read. I debated in my head what I wanted to rate this book because there were times when it had me, there were times it completely lost me, and yet somehow in the go-betweens, I found a way to push thro...
This is a DNFWhilst I understand some will love it, I just cant take it seriously. It's suppose to be dream-like and "beautiful" in it's writing style. I guess I can see where they're coming from but to me it comes across as ridiculous.
