by Ben Aaronovitch This is the second book in the Rivers of London series and takes our friendly magician/cop into the world of Jazz. It pretty much stands alone and I get the feeling that all the books will be stand alone adventures, but with overlapping threads. A few tendrils from the first s...
I liked this book at least as much as the first book in the series, though two of the characters I’m really interested in were sidelined for most of the story by the horrific injuries they sustained in the first book. I appreciated the introduction of what I assume is going to be Peter and Nightinga...
***Spoilers ahead you’ve been warned*** It is advisable to read the first one before you get into Moon Over Soho. You’re pretty much carrying on right after the events in the first book so it’s always better to get the background information before carrying on :) I was pleased with this one, com...
There are two storylines running through Moon Over Soho: one that begins and ends with this book, involving a string of suspicious deaths, all of them jazz musicians. The other centres on a mysterious, faceless, unknown sorcerer running around London killing and conducting his own Dr. Moreau type e...
I love the tone and humor in the novel. Peter Grant is a great guy to hang out with. The music riffs were nice too. Yet, the big reveal was something that anyone, including a bug, could have seen coming and quite frankly, the fact that Grant didn't see it was stupid.I did like the morality debate at...
Series: Peter Grant #2 Musicians are dropping dead after gigs and there's a whiff of magic around their bodies... I really like these audiobooks; Kobna Holdbrook-Smith does a great job. There's only one voice that I have trouble understanding for long speeches but I guess that's kind of intentio...
When I think back over the first books in this series, I remember them being a lot of fun -- pretty funny, really, with moments of tension and drama. I don't know why I think that. Listening to the first two have been a good corrective. Yes, Peter is witty, and some of what he does while learning ...
Everyone I know who has read these books is pretty enamored with them. I picked it up as a break from some of the more depressing things I've been reading. These books are fun, but still not without depth and not without their own sorrow. The writing style is very clever and generally pretty humor...
I loved this book. It is a stand alone story but a lot of it relies on knowing the background from book 1. A little more "adult" in places, but it is part of the story. Anyway, it's not a kids book! The only problem is that, like all addictive items, it leaves you looking for the next one. Time to hi...
Pretty much the same review as the first book. Really liking the story but at around 75% the writing becomes garrulous with excruciatingly detailed descriptions that are completely unnecessary. It was almost as if the author was padding, trying to make the book a certain word count or page number....
