Scott G. McNall is Emeritus Provost (1994-2007) and Professor at California State University, Chico (CSUC), and was the founding Executive Director of the Institute for Sustainable Development at CSUC (2007-2011). He is currently an affiliated professor in the Department of Sociology at the University of Montana. He has held tenured positions at Arizona State University and the Universities of Kansas, Minnesota, and Toledo. He describes himself as a political economist with an eclectic set of interests that have ranged from a study of Greek economic development to the factors that gave rise to Kansas Populism. He has authored or co-authored and edited over 20 books and written extensively on issues related to climate change, equality, social class, sustainability, and resilience. He grew up in Oregon where he developed an abiding interest and commitment to the natural world. He is at home in the Mountain West and is an avid, but not very good, fisherman. He lives with his wife, Sally, in Missoula, Montana and their two cats, Maggie (Thatcher) and Emma (Goldman).
