Scott Ury is Senior Lecturer in Tel Aviv University's Department of Jewish History where he is also Head of the Roth Institute for the Study of Contemporary Antisemitism and Racism. Published in 2012, his monograph Barricades and Banners: The Revolution of 1905 and the Transformation of Warsaw Jewry examines the impact of the urban environment on the development of modern Jewish society and politics in what was then Europe's largest Jewish center. The book received the Reginald Zelnik Book Prize for outstanding monograph published on Russia, Eastern Europe or Eurasia in the field of history from the Association for Slavic, East European and Eurasian Studies (ASEEES). A manuscript version of the book was awarded a commendation for the Fraenkel Prize for an outstanding work of twentieth-century history from the Wiener Library for the Study of the Holocaust and Genocide, London. Scott Ury is also co-editor of volume 24 of the annual Polin on Jews and Their Neighbours in Eastern Europe since 1750, and of a special edition of the European Review of History on Cosmopolitanism, Nationalism and the Jews of East Central Europe.He was educated at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and the University of California, Berkeley.
