Dr. Busick is an associate professor of History at Athens State University in Athens, Alabama. He earned his bachelor's degree from Purdue University, and his M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of South Carolina.Dr. Busick is former president of the William Gilmore Simms Society and the author of A Sober Desire for History: William Gilmore Simms as Historian (USC Press, 2005). He also wrote introductions for new editions of Simms's The Cassique of Kiawah (History Press, 2005) and Life of Francis Marion (History Press, 2007). His current projects include writing a social history of early American political barbecues.
