I had actually started to read this book a few years ago and stopped 50 pages in because I couldn't get into it. Having read 11 of Jodi's books, all of which I loved, I figured Second Glance was worth another try. I couldn't get myself to like Ross, but the suspense surrounding the strange occurre...
Jodi Picoult's books are marketed as if they were Richard and Judy / Opra /Hallmark fodder - with an awful "What would you do?" line that appears on each cover. In the past I've avoided them because life is too short. My wife told me "Second Glance" would be worth my time but warned me it would be...
So normally I bash Jodi Picoult books because of her formulaic writing, over crisis and drama and propagandized storylines. However this one gets bashed for a whole new reason. This book's characters were so poorly developed and the storyline was so discombobulated it was ridiculous. This book stunk...
Dear Ms. Picoult,It's not you, it's me. This isn't my type of book. I can think you can write. I'm aware of the dedication you put to your craft. This book, however, doesn't do it for me for some reason. Sorry.Chris
Unlike with most of the Picoult titles I've read, I never felt connected to the characters in Second Glance. Ms. Picoult's books usually feature characters dealing with really tough issues - mental health, physical diseases or disorders, divorce, etc. or even a combination of all of these complex ma...
I would have given this book a lower score, the end redeemed it a bit though. I found the first half of this book a struggle, mainly due to the amount of characters, it became difficult to keep up with who was who. Then just as you get to grips with the pace of the book, there's a huge change of pac...
I'm not a huge Picoult fan, but this book sounded interesting and it was. A really good ghost story with accurate historical background about the "Eugenics" project in Vermount. Written in 2002 it is one of her older books. I enjoyed it much more than some of the more recent ones.
This book intertwined a ghost story with the history of the eugenics movement in Vermont in the 1930s. The book seamlessly wove together the stories of so many seemingly unconnected lives and it was almost effortless in its execution.
Not my favorite Picoult novel, but there's some good stuff here. I wasn't familiar with the whole eugenics thing prior to reading this book. Appalling! Based on real events. I liked this line: "Men...were like an accessory, like a belt or purse or shoes. You didn't necessarily need one to complet...
