I really like Jasper Fforde. The universe he invented for this book was fascinating and delightful to read about. The plot was a little predictable, but you don't really read Fforde for the plot. This book is not as funny as the Thursday Next series, but it is, I think, a little more inventive.
3,5 stars. The idea for this book is great. It's the first dystopic novel I've read where the "before" isn't actually our world, but something else freaky and weird. And the actual world where the story takes place is... quite innovative. Unfortunately, this book didn't really "grab" me and I did hav...
This is the first book I read by this author, so I didn't know what to expect, but now I can say I was delighted. However, I would recommend to handle this story, especially its first half, with a fair amount of focus: the author hands out information about his world bits by bits, and one needs to b...
A 4.5 star review. It seems like every time I read a Jasper Fforde book I think that this is his best book yet! Shades of Grey is no exception. Both plot and writing style is Fforde at his best - whimsical, unexpected while still carrying more depth than it would seem on the surface.I was fascinated ...
This is my first Jasper Fforde novel so I wasn't sure what to expect. I was reminded strongly of Douglas Adams, though an incarnation that was toned down a bit and followed a reasonable story plot.I thought this was a fun book and it made me wonder how civilization could go from what it is now to a ...
This book is more of a rating of 2.5 stars rather than 3 mainly because it took literally 300 pages out of 388 for me to actually start to enjoy the book.I heard mixed reviews going into it and wasn't even entirely sure if I was going to read it but I found it for 6 bucks in hardcover so I had to bu...
I cannot possibly properly state how well-done that book was. I may need to get the second in the series today. It's funny, sad, gently cruel in places, quite polite, does a beautiful job of painting in the details that most of the characters can't or won't see (there's probably a metaphor in there)...
