It's a universal truth that nothing spoils a postlunch game of croquet like suspecting the other players of murder. In this stand-alone novel, a successful 30-something divorcee, Charlotte decides to treat herself to a much needed vacation -- at Austenland, an estate in England where everyone dons Re...
I was so excited to jump into this one because of how much I loved Austenland. Austenland was another of the books I read in that initial "summer of Jane" I told you about (it came after Sanditon, when I'd learned to hope Austen adaptations could be good, and Austenland seemed to confirm that), and ...
I have to say...this was only OK. I read Austenland and really liked it. I thought this would be great. Charlotte is newly divorced. She stumbles on a list she made as a kid of things she wants to do with her life. One of those things is read all of Jane Austen's novels. Ok, that right there w...
Much better than the 1st book, IMO. I didn't expect the "mystery", and I'm still deciding if it fit or not... But I enjoyed the book and happily got lost in it.
Even better than the first one. I loved how the mystery element made even the romantic elements less predictable. It was witty and well-paced. Definitely one I'd recommend.
I have not read Austenland 1 so I do not know if all the characters there was in here, but anyway, it works well as a stand alone. This one has Northanger Abbey vibes as the heroine Charlotte takes a mystery game every seriously and suddenly everything is wrong. What is fact and what is made-up. Aust...

I have been an avid reader of Shannon Hale’s books ever since I read the Goose Girl. I’ve read her entire Books of Bayern series, Princess Academy, Book of a Thousand Days and of course, Austenland. I really enjoy Hale’s writing because it’s very pleasing and the stories are always interesting. Hale...
The first thing that stands out about Midnight in Austenland is the writing. Shannon’s vocabulary choices give it a Jane Austen feel, but it flows so well and is a joy to read. Midnight in Austenland is not really a sequel. The main character is different, the tone is different, but some of the mino...
Oh, Shannon Hale, you know what I need!I'm sure everyone has already heard enough of me ranting about exams and exams and have I mentioned exams? But there is a time when you just need to sit back and enjoy a good book, and Midnight in Austenland was just what I needed.I read Austenland and this is ...
