*A Romance Writers of America RITA finalist for best Long Historical Romance*Broken Dreams and Second Chances...Honed by danger and haunted by the past, Lord Michael Kenyon finds it easy to risk his life for his country’s sake. But in the shadow of Waterloo, he faces a far more dangerous threat—the loss of his heart to the beautiful battlefield nurse who saves his life, yet can never be his. Called a saint for her virtue and selfless courage, only Catherine Melbourne knows the tragic flaw at the core of her spirit. In Michael Kenyon, she sees the strength and kindness she craves, yet for honor’s sake she must conceal her love and send him away. Even when freed from her empty marriage, she conceals the truth because of the bleak knowledge that she can never again be any man’s wife. Then fate offers Catherine a fortune, a title, a heritage for her daughter—if Michael will impersonate her husband on a visit to a wild Cornish island. Reluctantly he agrees to the masquerade. But what begins as a simple journey leads them into a shattering vortex of danger and betrayal—and a fiercely passionate love that can no longer be denied. PRAISE FOR SHATTERED RAINBOWS:“An extraordinary reading experience. Darkly erotic and sizzling with sensuality, this love story dazzles the senses and steals your heart away. Romance just doesn’t get any better than this.” —Melinda Helfer, Romantic Times, 4 ½ GOLD rating“Rarely have I read a book about two such wonderful characters…Catherine is a beautiful, intelligent woman with integrity and Michael a noble, moral hero…Although many historical romances have used the backdrop of the Napoleonic Wars and the Battle of Waterloo, Putney’s description of the actual battle is electrifying…Books of quality such as Shattered Rainbows can only raise the standard for all romance novels. This is one of the best books of this year or any year.”—Dede Anderson, TheRomanceReader.com“Ms. Putney makes me proud to be a romance reader. She writes beautiful stories about mature people with complicated lives and emotions that draw you in and will not let you go.”—Lenore Howard, Old Book Barn GazetteABOUT THE AUTHOR:A New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and USAToday bestselling author, Mary Jo Putney was born in Upstate New York with a reading addiction, a condition for which there is no known cure. Her entire romance writing career is an accidental byproduct of buying a computer for other purposes. Her novels are known for psychological depth and intensity and include historical and contemporary romance, fantasy, and young adult fantasy. Winner of numerous writing awards, including two RITAs and two Romantic Times Career Achievement awards, she has six times had books listed among the Library Journal’s top five romances of the year, and three times had books among the top ten romances of Booklist, the magazine of the American Library Association. Her favorite reading is great stories, but in a pinch she’ll settle for the backs of cereal boxes. She’s delighted that e-publishing can now make available books that have been out of print.

3.0 Shattered Rainbows
Of all the fallen angels I think this is my least favorite (I have read all of them in my youth). But I really appreciate Mary Jo Putney's writing. It sometimes flows a bit oddly, but always has a richness to it that I cannot describe. I think in the romance genre, some writers write fluffy romances...

3.5 stars. I liked it, but not as well as Book 1 in the Fallen Angels series, even though this one had a lot more adventure and a lot of delicious angst because Catherine and Michael can't be together. They are both so damn noble, it was wonderful and heart-wrenching all at the same time. I had some...

4.0 Mary Jo Putney's "Shattered Rainbows" - #5 in the Fallen Angels series
This is becoming a pattern for me with Mary Jo Putney's books: I get to a point in the book where the plot is so bad that I (figuratively) throw the book against the wall and decide to stop reading it right there. In this book it was the spot where the villain arrives in London to pick up the heroin...
