The Shih Tzu dog is bred entirely for companionship, making it an ideal dog for a person who loves being around their pets all the time. They are known to be affectionate, outgoing, and generally happy dogs who are content being with their masters anywhere. The Shih Tzu has a royal background, popular for their history of keeping royal Chinese families company during the Ming Dynasty.
Since the Shih Tzu is bred to be nothing more than a friendly companion and therefore does not have any hunting, herding, or guarding skills. A Shih Tzu is happiest when they are around people – greeting them and turning strangers into friends. They are good natured dog and highly adaptable; excellent choices for those who live in apartments as well as on farms. This is a great choice of dog for those who have children and other animal in the household. Because of their small size, adults should always supervise play between children and Shih Tzu’s to prevent them from getting hurt accidentally.
