Without the expletives, the statements of Halpern's dad aren't especially funny, although they are pithy and apt. So, ulitmately, a not-too-funny book, but one that is rather touching. It's obvious that the elder Halpern cares a great deal for his son, even if he isn't very revealing in his words.
