This tale takes place on the the campus of the original Wake Forest College near Raleigh in the last year before Big Tobacco moved the college to Winston-Salem. It is a tale of romance mingled with true-to-life descriptions of the old campus, recounting many aspects of the school's history, the work of its administrators and professors, with real names of real people. The author has spent more than forty years as a roving correspondent and editorialist, mainly for the Atlanta Constitution and Baltimore Sun. He has won many press association awards, and his articles have appeared in a host of nationally circulated magazines. In the late Seventies he served as a fellow for the National Endowment for the humanities and was co-winner of the 1970 Pulitzer Prize for Public Service.
