After the longest, driest reading month of my life it was wonderful to fall into this book and lose myself in the story. Deanna Raybourn writes a solid mystery story. I enjoyed that aspect of the book quite a bit, as well as continued glimpses of some of her colourful friends and family. However, I was left with a feeling of disquiet with respect to Julia and Nicholas. There is a lot of potential there for a friend...

I actually liked this one a lot better than the first! Both the mystery and Lady Julia’s relationships with the various characters seemed much more enjoyable somehow. I’m anxious to read the third. [Sept. 2010]
