When I first heard that John Connolly had written a fictional account of the life of Stan Laurel, based on the latter's correspondence, I was very intrigued to acquire and read the book. I have the greatest admiration for JC but am more familiar with his creation the anti hero and very troubled det...
Well this book was one I had some interest because:1- It was written by CL Werner2- I thought it was in Orks perspective (if anyone could do it, it would be him). The second point was not true but I didn't mind. I really enjoy the story about the remaining 37 soldiers of the Cadian 267th. They travel...
(Cross-posted from Goodreads, originally published August 2011. Some minor edits.) I have always been fascinated by the history of England under the Tudors, particularly Henry VIII. I chalk this up partly to a morbid fascination, and partly to a genuine desire to understand the circumstances leadi...
This is one book that suffers in the audio format. There are too many characters (all named Thomas or Ann, it seems) to keep everything straight without the ability to flip back and forth.

It definitel...

It also pulls Thomas Moore’s reputation down from its saintly perch. Moore in this story is a sniveling sanctimonious character running his ow...
Maybe. I have read A Place of Greater Safety by this author ane really liked it, but I need to read other nbooks on the subject first. I need also to see what others say. I need to know more about Henry VIII. Can I deal with the politics of Cromwell when I know so little? Hmm - just maybe. Or later....
I have always been fascinated by the history of England under the Tudors, particularly Henry VIII. I chalk this up partly to a morbid fascination, and partly to a genuine desire to understand the circumstances leading up to the Golden Age of Elizabeth I. (Her family’s Whig hatred of Elizabeth I is o...
